I am looking for anyone that would want to form a team for the Green Mountain Relay in June. I was thinking a Helter Skelter team – so we don’t have to stick to a strick rotation, but would be open to the other choices. I could be ready for the 5 person relay, but would prefer the 10 or 11? (can’t remember) relay b/c this would be my first relay experience. Shoot me an email at hollyklein30@hotmail.com. HK

Are there any groups in the Albany / Latham area that do the CHI running? I was reading on it and am interested in learning more.

Are there any runners out in the Averill Park/Sand Lake/Nassau area who would like to take a little penguin under their wing for once or twice weekly runs? I’m training for a half-marathon and find it very difficult to get motivated to do my long runs alone. Thanks!

Hi Deb,
What half are you training for? I’d be interested in a running partner, but live in Clifton Park and am only up to about 5-6miles yet.

Hi Andra,
I’m training for the Kaua’i (Hawaii) half marathon on September 6. I was up to 8 miles on my long runs, but I’m just recovering from a minor IT band injury, so I’ll be building my miles up again slowly. We could certainly train together on some weekend if the weather cooperates (if it snows, I’ll be skiing!). It’s nice to run by me on 43 up towards Jiminy. Hilly in spots, but beautiful. Or we could run together in the spring. Clifton Commons sports complex is nice to run at too.

Hey folks, As you may have heard or know from last year, springtime here at Fleet Feet is an exciting time of year. We’ll be launching No Boundaries again this spring starting in March. No Boundaries is a program designed to get people active again. It’s perfect for folks who just haven’t done any running before! We start out real slow and over a 10 week period, train everyone up for a 5K in June. It will be a lot of fun.
This year, because of my personal experience with running after cancer, we will be adding No Boundaries, Survivor Division! We’re also going to be fielding groups from Albany, Saratoga, and Glens Falls! Sign ups will open end of February and we’ll start running the end of March.
So please, if you know of anyone who would get into running but just needs the group encouragement to do so, please refer them to us! Have them call the store 459-F.E.E.T. and ask for George and/or leave your name and number and I’ll get back to you right away!

Hey George! I met you at the store yesterday (Monday) when I went in with my sister to buy a pouch for my cell phone. We talked about the No Boundaries program. I read the information you gave me, but your excitement over the upcoming March meeting is what made me decide that I want to be part of the program! Thanks for the encouragment!

Thanks Jean! We’re thrilled you’ll be joining us! we’re starting to hear more excitement for No Boundaries around the store and the staff is starting to get into it too! Between the new developments at the store (the track, the new space, the new displays, etc.) and No Boundaries kicking off, the energy this spring is palpable! Please spread the word. With the Survivor’s Division being added this year, we certainly won’t be at a loss for inspiration! The more the merrier so start the viral promotion. Tell your friends and please ask them to tell their friends.
No Boundaries will change the way people look at staying active! Stay in touch and we’ll see you at the Orientation meeting for No Boundaries on March 23 at 6:30!!!
Thanks Jean!!!

After sixteen weeks of blood, sweat, and tears I was ready for 26.2 miles of adventure. I woke up with a planned strategy and raced with confidence and hope. I ran every mile at a goal pace but I ironically hit an invisible wall at the 20 mile marker. I then questioned my strategy, my training, and my ability. I am not a professional, why did I invest so much just to be defeated. This is just a selfish hobby that takes me away from my family. I felt worthless and ashamed and did not want to run ever again. I walked ten kilometers as a failure. I crossed the finish line with my head down and was approached with cheerful open arms. My family was proud of me and their hugs and praise encouraged me. My finishing time was not important, this was a celebration of effort. Feeling selfish, I turned around and cheered those finishers behind me. Witnessing the effort of others inspired me to plan another adventure.
This is an essay on effort from the book: (Literature of a Liberated Runner)it’s a book of essays, poems, and short stories that were created during my long runs.

I’m happy to see that Fleetfeet is now carrying more triathlon gear — keep it up. It is tough to find — mostly online — not that there is much that is Tri-specific — it is good to be able to try stuff on in a local store.
Anyone else here on the blog who is doing tri’s?

Many thanks for starting the track club with Coach Rob this summer. It has helped me get into shape for the fall races I have. I also like the one-on-one, goal-oriented aspect to it. Hope it continues.

Just in case you needed a reason to run the Falling Leaves in Utica on Sunday, Sept 27th…here’s 10!
1. Long Sleeve Brooks Technical T-shirts to the first 1500 runners! Last year’s shirt was a big hit, don’t miss out! ($30 value)
2. Did I mention the first 1500 runners. That would be a Falling Leaves record for number of runners. Please help us get to that goal; tell your friends, neighbors, children, parents, whoever.
3. The new and improved expo on Saturday the 26th from 9-5. This year there are so many things we’ll add them as additional top ten reasons.
4. At noon on Saturday, stop by the Radisson for the first annual runners forum. This years topic will be, “Living the distance dream; your guide to running your first marathon/triathlon/duathlon/ultra distance race” By the way the first 50 people through the doors will receive a goody bag full of Hammer Nutrition endurance fuels (a $10 value)
5. By popular demand we will have new and more vendors at the expo this year. National Running Center will be there with a full line of running apparel and shoes. Also look for local restaurants, chiropractors, and other merchandise.
6. Manzella productions has jumped in as our award sponsor this year. To go along with last year’s running hats, you have a chance to win running gloves (a $15 value).
7. Pat Leone from Leone timing will be unveiling the D-Tag timing system for this year’s race. These are disposable tags that go on your sneaker, so no more messing with chip removal in the chutes.
8. The race is going green! Look for the Green Team volunteers at the post race party and water stops.
9. The NBT bank 14 kilometer road race is a part of the USATF Adirondack Association Grand Prix Series. Join USATF to compete in the annual series.
10. If you add up the value of this race, you are getting a $30 shirt, a $10 Hammer Nutrition goody bag, and if you win an award a $15 pair of running gloves. Your race entry fee of only $27 until September 23rd gets you at least $40 of free stuff, and maybe even $55. That is the best deal in road racing hands down.
See you there,
Mike, RD

Just wanted to make sure that worked. I am wondering if anyone knows how to find a running group or coach. I need to find someone who enjoys helping somewhat eager runners reach new goals. Although I am not a new runner I just finished my first half and need some direction for what/how/when to plan for next. Ifanyone has any suggestions that would be awesome.

I’m in Nassau and am looking for a running partner. I’m just getting back into it after having a baby. I would love to do early morning and weekends (or afternoon stroller runs!). I want to build up to a half marathon, but will start slow and low.
Anyone newbie interested or perhaps a new mom??

Thanks so much to Charlie and Arlene for their hospitality at our after hours no boundaries running sessions and group parties. I also would like to thank George, Rosella and the groups mentors for such a great time and such encouragement in the no boundaries program. What a great group of people. I had such a blast at the 5K race (Operation Santa Clause). See you in the Spring.

You’re very welcome Mary! It was indeed a great group of people and we were all honored to have been a part of the groups success. Over 159 of you No Boundaries graduates crossed the finish line at the Operation Santa Claus event. It really was a lot of fun too! We certainly couldn’t have picked a better day. Take a look at the pictures on the No Boundaries Facebook page. Search No Boundaries – Fleet Feet Albany with the Facebook search thingy! See you in the Spring! Look for registration in February. Also, if you are someone you know is interested in being a Mentor for the Spring 5K program, please drop me a line at gpk@georgepkansas.com! Have a great holiday season! GPK
